Araba had none other choice than to accept the proposal. She didn’t have any place to go to, and it seemed God had answered her prayers.
Rose opened the front door for Araba and she entered. In ten minutes, they arrived at the company. Rose took Araba into the lobby and asked her to sit. She promised to return soon. Araba was feeling uncomfortable because she was shabbily dressed. All the people she saw around were in suits. She couldn’t stand the way they were staring at her. They made her feel as if she just dropped from the planet Jupiter.
In no time, Rose finished with the meeting and came to find Araba dozing off on the sofa. Araba couldn’t rAkuast the cushioning and comforting effect the sofa offered to her body. Rose went towards her and woke her up. “Araba wake up, we have to go.” Rose said. Araba quickly took her bag and followed Rose to her car. She didn’t know where Rose was taking her to, but she had no alternative than to follow.
Rose lived in the same house with her parents at East Legon. They lived in a five-bedroom apartment. There was something that attracted Rose to Araba. Rose wasn’t sure what it was. All she felt was the compassion to help the needy girl she almost knocked down with her car. She knows little about her, but she felt Araba was trustworthy.
As they sat in the car, Rose started thinking. How would her finicky mother accept Araba to stay in their house? Her mom rarely trusted people and to bring a total stranger into their house was out of the question. She had already sacked the two maid servant she hired within the last two months. “I need to come up with an excuse when my mom confronts me. I want to help this girl and nothing can stop me from achieving that.
Meanwhile, Dorothy returned to the house to brief Araba on the job. She had in mind a lot of rich men she had wanted to give Araba to. She had also bought a lot of skimpy dresses for her to wear for the night operations. She was happy she had been successful to convince another young girl to join her line of business.
She went to the room to wait for Araba to return from hawking. She didn’t initially see the money Araba placed on the mat. Dorothy waited for Araba for several hours, but she wasn’t coming. “Ah, what is keeping this girl today? She has kept long in coming.” Dorothy said. It was then she realized something unusual. She couldn’t see Araba’s bag anymore. “Had she run away?” Dorothy asked herself. After long waiting and searching, she saw the money on the bed and concluded that Araba had run away. Araba had left her to her faith. She was now supposed to work tirelessly to pay back the debt.
Rose drove to the gate of the house and produced a honk. The security man opened the gate, and she drove through to the garage. She led Araba to the guest room. She introduced Araba to the maid servant. “This is our guest Nana Akua. Make her comfortable and show her around the house.” Rose said as she left Araba in the guest room. She was still thinking about the excuse to give her mother when she returns. She knew her dad would be okay with Araba staying with them, but not her mother. She went upstairs to her room to take a shower. She wanted to calm herself down to face her mom. She wanted Araba to be part of the family.
Rose was the only child of her parents. She had none other siblings, although she longed for one. She wanted to take Araba as a sister. Since childhood, she had watched children from different families’ fellowshipping with each other. She never had that experience. She was always left with her toys and computers, and because of that had few friends. She needed someone to share her problems with other than her parents. Someone that would be to her like a sister and she saw those qualities in Araba. “I will do everything possible to make sure she stays here.” Rose finally said.
Rose was startled when she heard a car pulling into the compound. She knew her mother had come. She immediately thought of going down to welcome her, but was stopped by a thought. “Why don’t I speak to daddy first? I can convince daddy easily than mom. If I get him to agree with me, it will be difficult for mom to kick against the idea.”
Rose stayed back. Her only wish was for Araba to remain indoors. She had earlier told Nana Akua to show Araba around and was hoping they don’t bump into her mother. That would have been a kind of disaster she didn’t want at the moment. On a second thought, she decided to go down to the guest room herself and warn Araba to wait for her signal before coming out.
She descended the staircase and made her way through to the kitchen. She wanted to use the back door because her mom was coming through the front door. She wanted to do anything possible to avoid her mother from seeing her. Luck was not on her side as she bumped into her mother in the kitchen. She had gone there to take water. “Rose, why are you sneaking around like a thief?” Her mom asked. “Oh mom! Why should you ask such a question? I am not sneaking around. I am just experiencing some tummy upsets that is why I am so cautious about my steps.” Rose retorted. “Oh really!! What did you eat?” Rose mom asked with a worrying face. “Nothing mother. Don’t worry, I will be fine. It is not that serious. I just need to go outside for fresh air.” Rose retorted.
With that excuse, Rose saw herself outside and headed to the guest room. Fortunately for her, Araba was asleep. That meant she hadn’t gone out. She touched her slightly on her thigh and Araba woke up. “Sorry for disturbing your sleep Araba, but there is something we need to discuss.” Rose said while she sat on the bed.
Araba’s mind went wild upon hearing that. She had begun to like the place. Was Rose going to tell her she couldn’t stay there any longer? She didn’t want to hear that.
“We have a little problem Araba. I don’t stay in this house alone. I live with my parents and they will come home any moment from now. In fact, as I am speaking, my mother is already in. Nobody knows you are in this house except Nana Akua. So I would like you to stay indoors until I tell you otherwise. I want to speak to my parents first and get them to agree to your staying here. Don’t worry, Nana Akua will take care of your every need, but all I want from you now is to stay indoors.” Rose explained things to Araba and she nodded in agreement. She had nowhere to go, and had to accept the condition Rose gave her.
While they were still talking, they heard another sound of a vehicle entering the compound. Rose knew her father had returned from work. She had to hurry to see him and explain things to him. “Stay here Araba that is my dad. I want to explain your situation to him.
Rose got out of the guest room and went to her room. She knew her dad would pass by to see her. She had to be quick so she wouldn’t miss the opportunity.
