Juggled Glory (The Story of Aba) by Lewis Dampson Season 2- Episode (8)

Lecturer: I have heard all that you have said. Thank your stars I am in a good mood today. I will help you, but I also want you to do something for me in return.

Aba: What Sir?

Lecturer: I have different prices for different grades. Grade A is six thousand Ghana cedis, grade B is five thousand Ghana cedis etc. So you can choose from the options if you want a short cut.

Aba thought for some time and realized she had no money)

Aba: Sir, can you give a discount? I don’t have that kind of money.

Lecturer: There is no discount. Pay the money and you are assured of the grade you pay for.

Aba: Okay Sir, I will get back to you.

Aba excused herself from the presence of the lecturer and went to her room. She was in a state of confusion. She was thinking about how she would raise the money. Her savings account was dry. “Where am I going to get this money from?” She asked herself while driving back to her room. Suddenly, a thought came to her mind. “Why don’t I sell this car to pay for a grade A? After all, I don’t have the money to maintain it.”

Aba decided not to go to her room. She needed to call the car dealer who brought the car to her. She had kept his contact on her phone. Since he was into the business of selling cars, Aba knew he would help her sell her car. Aba scrolled through her contact list and called the dealer’s number. “Hello Mister.” Aba greeted. “Hello. Please who am I speaking to?” The car dealer asked. “I am the lady you brought the Toyota Camry to on campus. The one Mr. Harry bought.” Aba replied. “Oh yes, I remember now. What can I do for you this time lady?” the dealer inquired. “I want to sell the car and was hoping you could help me.” “Oh okay. Bring the car to my workplace and I will help you sell it, but remember, I will take a commission.” Said the dealer. “No problem at all.” Aba agreed to the dealer’s request.

Aba drove the car to the dealer’s workplace and left it there. She entered into a commercial vehicle and we went back to school hoping someone would buy the car soon. She had agreed to sell the car at eight thousand Ghana cedis which was less than half the actual price of the car. She felt cornered and didn’t have any other alternative because she needed the cash to pay the lecturer.

Bernard and Erica had begun to experience slight problems in their relationship. This all started at the hospital when Aba got admitted. Erica watched the way Bernard treated Aba on her sick bed. The way he behaved when he almost thought he had lost her. She watched in silence and made no comments then, but upon careful consideration, she had come to the conclusion that Bernard still had affections for Aba.

Although Bernard had assured her the opposite, she was beginning to think the opposite. She confronted Bernard on the issue but he just merely brushed it away. “Come on Erica. How can you consider such a thing? I have told you already that you are the one I want to marry. Why the doubt?” Bernard asked Erica.

Erica didn’t answer the question Bernard asked her. She was feeling jealous. She loved Bernard very much and had suffered a great deal to win his affection. She wasn’t in the position to lose it all after four three years of a relationship. She had to let Bernard know what she thought.

Although Erica was hurt, she broached the subject with a lot of caution. She didn’t want to upset Bernard in anyway. She reported the issue to their fellowship leader. She knew he was the only person who could solve the problem. They both respect him very much and knew Bernard would listen to him. She called the fellowship leader, Pastor Michael and booked an appointment with him. She also made Pastor Michael aware that the appointment was about her relationship so Pastor Michael called Bernard to also come over.

Bernard honored the appointment not knowing what it was all about. He was surprised to see Erica at the Pastor’s place when he got there. He just thought of it as a mere coincidence. He greeted the Pastor and sat down on a chair beside Erica.

He got to know the purpose of the meeting when Pastor Michael started addressing him. “Bernard, your beloved has reported to me about a situation that is really troubling her heart. She thinks you still have affections for your level 100 crush. Please I want us to solve this problem here and now so tell me the truth? Is she right?

Bernard became quiet for some time. He thought he had explain everything to Erica earlier. Perhaps, she didn’t still believe him, he thought. “Pastor, it is true I have had affections for Aba before. In fact, I really loved her. But what happened between us is past and gone. I still like her, but only just as a friend. I have made a commitment to marry Erica and that is what I am going to do.” Bernard explained himself.

Pastor Michael realized the sincerity in Bernard’s voice. He confirmed to Erica that Bernard was telling the truth. “Erica, I understand your fears, but I am positive that this young man loves you very much and wants to honor his promise to you. Please, don’t let your emotions take control over you. Trust Bernard on his word because I have known him to be a sincere person. Trust is one of the foundations of a healthy relationship so don’t lose that my dear.” Pastor Michael admonished Erica.

Erica was so moved by Pastor Michael’s words. She took his advice. She now believed Bernard loved her. All the jealousy melted out of her heart. They were happy once more.

Meanwhile, Aba’s car had been sold. The dealer called her and she went for the money. The dealer took one thousand Ghana Cedis as his commission. Aba now had seven thousand Ghana cedis. She quickly went to see the lecturer and gave him the sum of six thousand Ghana cedis for grade A. “At last, I can rest. I don’t have to worry about this paper again. I can now focus on other things” said Aba when she came out of the lecturer’s office.

Aba managed and wrote the rest of the papers. She used the rest of the money she got from the selling of her car to pay someone to write her project work for her. For a moment, she felt smart. Everything was working as planned.

Finally, the examination results came after some few weeks and Aba went to check her results. She was shocked to realize that nothing had been changed on her transcript concerning the resit paper. The result remained the same. She couldn’t believe what she was seeing. What had happened!!!! She asked herself in amazement. “I paid the lecturer to give me grade A. What am I seeing?”

What do you think happened? Has Aba been double-crossed?
Watch out for the next episode for what happens next.
