“So what is the name of this girl?” Juliet asked. “Her name is Rose.” Daniel replied. Daniel was able to convince Juliet to join. He was going to introduce Juliet to Rose as his sister.
Rose’s mother was taking a nap when she heard a loud knock on the door. She was startled by the noise coming from outside her room. Rose barged into the room with her fingers firmly fixed on Nana Akua’s wrist. “Mom… Mom…. Mom!!!” Rose called her mom trying to show the urgency of the issue at hand.
“What is the problem Rose? Why are you screaming for me on top of your voice?” Rose’s mother asked. “Mother, there is something I want to draw your attention to.” Rose said. “Okay, what is it? And why are you holding Nana Akua’s wrist like that? What did she do?” Rose’s mother asked. “Hmm. I went over to her place to call her to help me with something. I saw her sleeping and was turning away when something caught my attention. I saw these expensive clothes littered all over in Nana Akua’s room.” Rose said while showing her mom the clothes. “When I confronted her on how she got the clothes, she kept mute. I have brought her here so you could ask her yourself.” Rose said while pushing Nana Akua forward closer to her mom.
“Nana Akua, where did you get the money to buy all these clothes?” Rose’s mother asked. “Err… Err… Err.” Nana Akua muttered with fear. “Lady, better start speaking before I slap the hell out of you!” Rose’s mother said as she threatened to slap Nana Akua. Nana Akua was frightened. “Please Madam, don’t beat me, I will talk.” Nana Akua finally blurted out. “Yes, I am listening.” Rose’s mother said as she sat on the bed with Rose’s fingers still firmly fixed on Nana Akua’s wrist.
“Sir Daniel gave them to me.” Nana Akua said with trembling in her voice. “You mean Daniel gave you all these expensive clothes. What work did you do for him to reward you with such an expensive gift?” Rose asked with surprise as Daniel never mentioned ever buying any clothes for Nana Akua. “You are a bloody liar, Nana Akua. I will call Daniel to come over here. You will see what he will do to you.” Rose said while taking her phone to dial Daniel’s number.
Rose: Hello dear, how are you doing?
Daniel: I am doing well, and I believe you are fine too?
Rose: I am doing great dear. I need you to come over to my house right now. There is an issue at hand and my mother requires your presence.
Daniel: What is the issue at hand Rose?
Rose: You will even laugh when you hear it. Come quickly.
Daniel: Okay, I am on my way.
Daniel hanged up and headed towards Rose’s house. “Daniel is on his way. You think you can lie and go free.” Rose said to Nana Akua. Nana Akua remained silent as she didn’t want to complicate the situation she was in.
In fifteen minutes, Daniel pulled into the compound of Rose’s house. Rose heard the honking and was glad. She quickly left the room and went to meet him at the gate. She led Daniel to where Nana Akua and her mom were. Daniel tried to get a hint on the issue at hand, but Rose just pulled him along. She opened the door to the master bedroom and Daniel followed her.
Daniel was startled when she saw Nana Akua sitting on a chair in the room with Rose’s mother. He knew at once that there was something amiss. He had to think fast or else he would be in serious trouble.
“Hmm Daniel, you wouldn’t believe what Nana Akua said about you. She said you bought these expensive dresses for her. Can you believe that!!? I called you here so you could hear this absurd accusation for yourself.” Rose said while laughing. “Oh yes, I bought them for her.” Daniel said to Rose’s amazement. “What!! Why did you do that? You didn’t even tell me about it.” Rose said with a tone both filled with surprise and anger. “Why are you overreacting Rose? I bought those dresses for her on her birthday. I have seen how she serves in this house and wanted to reward her accordingly. I didn’t see the need to tell you since it was such a trivial thing.” Daniel explained.
He was able to convince both Rose and her mother to believe his story. “Rose leave the gentleman alone. I see nothing wrong with him surprising Nana Akua with gifts. He should rather be commended for his actions. None of us could appreciate the young girl for his servitude all these years. We couldn’t buy anything for her on her birthday. I think Daniel has done well.” Rose’s mother said.
Rose had no other option than to rest her case. If her mom thought what Daniel did was praiseworthy, then she had to agree with her mom and rest her case. “Okay Daniel, I have heard you, you should have told me though. We are getting married next week and we don’t have to hide anything from each other.” Rose said as she signaled Nana Akua to go back to her room.
“Rose, since you have brought up this issue of transparency, I would like to tell you something else.” Said Daniel. “What is it, dear?” Rose asked inquisitively. “I have a sister called Juliet. I want both of you to meet. I want her to come and stay with you for some time. I want both of you to get yourself acquainted.” Daniel said. “Wow! That will be great. I will like to meet this sister of yours.” Rose said.
Daniel smiled when he saw his plans were working. He wanted Juliet to be his eyes in the house. He knew Rose had hidden a lot of important information about herself to him. He wanted to find out all of them and see where she was more vulnerable.
Doreen had become a degenerate ever since she got out of police custody. She had tried to undergo vocational training, but couldn’t because of her can waywardness. She was now a drop out, hopping from one man to another including married men. Mame Pokua constantly received complaints about how her daughter had been misconducting herself in public.
One evening, Doreen was from one of her escapades when she met one of her boyfriends who was a married man. He offered to take her out and buy her drinks, which she gladly accepted. She had earlier been with a guy who didn’t even buy her water. “That guy was stingy. He couldn’t even offer me water after spending so much time with him. He just slept with me for nothing. Let me follow this one. At least, he will give me something. These small boys are just a waste of time.” Doreen thought as she sat in the man’s car.
The man drove to the nearest bar, and they both got down and entered. Doreen was very happy as the man bought everything she wanted. Any drink she requested was paid for and brought to her. She was so full of merry that she didn’t realize someone was coming onto her from behind. It was an elderly woman. She held Doreen by the hair and pulled her off the chair onto the ground. “Stupid girl!! Husband snatcher!! I have caught you red-handed today. You are the reason my husband hasn’t paid my children’s school fees. You will see what I will do to you today.” The woman said angrily.
She dragged Doreen on the floor and beat her mercilessly. If it weren’t for the other customers in the bar who rescued Doreen, she would have been beaten to death. They intervened and rescued Doreen from the claws of the woman. Doreen was unconscious, and they quickly rushed her to the hospital.
Mame Pokua was in the house waiting for Doreen to return before locking the door to sleep. She waited for a long time, but her daughter wasn’t coming. She became worried and wondered where her daughter could be. She began to doze off when she got startled as someone ran into her compound shouting. She became scared as it was late. “What is it my daughter?” Mame Pokua asked the stranger. “Doree… Doreen is in the hospital right now. She was beaten by a married woman who caught her with her husband. She lost consciousness and was rushed to the Carewell Hospital.” The girl said while panting for breath.
Mame Pokua stood up and sprinted into the darkness. She needed to see her daughter. Mame Pokua was reaping the fruits of wickedness. She was now paying for all she did to Araba.
