THE RAIL TO THE POLLS by EDWIN PRINCE ADUSEI (Eddy Borbor)

The countdown is on again when Ghanaians will decide whether to change or maintain government. This is the time citizens start assessing what the sitting government has done or has been doing for the country within the speculated time in office.
This is the time personnels from the mass media start to get attractive headlines for their news. This is the time political analysts try to dissect and digest to the best of understanding, the manifestos and policies of political parties. But the main focus is who at the end of the day, emerges to lead the country as a result of the people’s choice. This is the time the Electoral Commission of the country, becomes eye centered.

Another electioneering activity is yet to be conducted; Ghanaians are yet to go to the polls and exercise their franchise. Who is the people’s choice? Are they going to maintain the government or change? That can be answered after the election. Seven presidential candidates representing the various political parties are going to battle for power on December 7.

Only one can become the president of Ghana for the next term of office. The strongest shall survive. Is it going to be the “skirt and blouse” kind of election? Is it going to be one touch or it is going to go round off? All these will be determined by the electorates. 7th December wouldn’t be a playing day for all politicians.

Who will go to parliament and who will wait for another four years? Which political party is going to have more seats in parliament? The thump is going to decide that. But can the EC be fair? Can she be trusted?

The train to December 7 is about setting off. Electorates are seated with their tickets ready to be checked. The EC is leading the exercise. Is the train going to reach the final destination and return safely? Who are going to be the next passengers when the train is returning to The State’s House? This journey can be successful when the Electoral Commission, electorates and candidates instill PEACE before, during and after the elections.

If electorates comport themselves, the train is going to reach its destination safely, if candidates do their best and forgo all acts of insuring themselves with violence by way of disagreeing with the outcome of the elections, the train is going to return safely and if the E.C also inculcate the habit of ensuring a fair results, then the train is going to return safely. Let’s all be ambassadors for PEACE. Not the citizens alone but every stakeholder who wants the election to come to a success.

Even though justice is what we all want, but let’s remember PEACE is PRICELESS. My dear people of Ghana, the time is near, the engine of the train is on and electorates are ready to board. Let’s have a Safe and Peaceful journey to and fro. Let face each other as brothers and sisters, not as enemies at the battle field. It is your right as eligible voter but let your thump speak for you not your fist.

Whatever the outcome maybe, let us all accept it in good faith. We all need a BETTER Ghana not a BATTLE Ghana. I stand for PEACE what about you? Salt and sugar taste differently but they all make a meal taste good. I want to continue to eat salt and sugar without any restrictions. Mother Ghana wants PEACE not WAR
THANK YOU
