Season 1- Episode (4)
Now, who will be successful in winning Aba’s heart? Bernard or Jeremy?
Meanwhile, Jeremy got home in 30 minutes. He was also thinking about the new girl he had gone to meet on campus. “I have been roaming this campus for a week now without any success. But what a lucky day today has been. Some of these campus girls are very easy to manipulate. All I need is a very nice and expensive car and also a nice outfit.” Said Jeremy feeling satisfied that his fuel wasn’t wasted.
Jeremy decided to call Aba, the new girl in her life. He could sense that Aba was attracted to him. He just needed to add some few touches to finish the job and he knew how to do it perfectly.
Aba finally decided it was time to deliberate on the issue with Stella. She moved to Stella’s bed and sat on it. Stella was busily texting on her phone when Aba sat on the bed. It seemed she had caught some “mugu” (A creole term use to describe someone that is being duped and deceived). She didn’t notice Aba when she sat on the bed. Aba tapped Stella on the shoulders. It was at this moment that she noticed Aba’s presence. She gave her a sign to hold on for some few seconds. Stella wrapped up all she was doing to attend to her roomie. Within 10 seconds, she placed her phone down and gave Aba her rapt attention.
“Yes! Aba, what is it this time around?” she asked Aba. “I’m confused Stella and I need your help and advice,” Aba retorted. “Aba go straight to the point. What are you confused about? I really need to go back and continue with what am doing,” she said impatiently. “I think … I think I kind of like some guy I met today,” Aba broached the subject with a lot of shyness.
“Really! How does he look like? Is he dusted? These days a lady must consider how rich a guy is before accepting his proposal. Look at all these campus boys. They are all broke but want to date hot girls like us. That is why I don’t do campus guys, I roll with big guys: I mean mature men.”
Aba didn’t know which question to answer first. She just said the guy really looked rich and also looked matured. She also commented on how handsome he looked. “Oh God, his eyes were so gorgeous,” Aba said finally with admiration and shyness. “Oh I see, then invite him over so we can cook him launch. I think I want to have a glance at this walking handsome you are describing.” Stella said. “To my best of knowledge, you should follow your feelings.
Considering the description of this new guy, I wouldn’t think twice to date him if I were to be in your position.” Stella finally concluded. Aba really liked what Stella said. But what bothered her mind was the fact that she didn’t really know Jeremy.
She had just met him this morning and she really liked him. But prior to coming to the university, her mom had warned her against glittering things. She recollected her mom advising her about the deception of men. They always come in sheep clothing but in the real sense are wolves looking out to devour any prey they lure into their traps.
Meanwhile, Bernard was planning to ask Aba out on a date. He checked his bank account and realized he had only forty Ghana cedis in his savings account. He really need more cash to make his plans work. He called home and asked for more money. Because the month was almost due, his father, Opanin Sakyere deposited two hundred Ghana cedis into Bernard’s account. Bernard was very happy. His could now accomplish his plans to take Aba on a date.
He wanted to surprise Aba by taking her to Frankies at Osu in Accra. “But how am I going to frame the whole thing? How am I going to tell Aba I want us to go on a date without startling her?” These were the questions that Bernard brooded over for some days.
He finally developed a strategy to make his intentions known without startling Aba in the process. He decided to visit her later that evening.
Back at Jeremy’s house, he was also planning to surprise Aba. He didn’t want to waste any time in wowing her. He wanted to sweep Aba off her feet. So he started making arrangements to take Aba on a date at the Golden Tulip Hotel. He wanted to surprise her when he broke the news to her that evening.
Aba heard her phone ringing. She stretched her hands to pick the call. She was feeling too lazy to get up from the bed, sit up and talk. Tiredness was eating her up. She pulled herself together and received the call. “Hello Aba!” the voice greeted. “Hello Ben!” Aba replied. “How are you doing Aba?” Bernard asked. “Doing great by the grace of God. You?” she answered and asked. “Also doing great by God’s grace,” he retorted. “Can I come over to your place this evening? It has been a while since I saw you. I have started to miss your presence already.”
Aba remained silent. “Hello … hello can you hear me?” Bernard asked anxiously. “Yes I can hear you,” she began slowly. "Humph! No problem Ben, you can come around.” Aba responded finally. But the truth was that, Aba didn’t want to entertain Bernard. She had seen how he looked at her and how he behaved when he is around her. She didn’t need a Prophet to tell her that Bernard was interested in her. But the truth was that, she was more attracted to Jeremy. She didn’t have any feelings for Bernard. She just accepted Ben’s request in order not to be rude to him.
As much as she didn’t have any feelings for him, she didn’t want to upset Bernard because he was the one helping her get along with academics. She really needed to play her cards well.
Aba went back to her sleeping position and just as she was about to plunge herself into sleep again, her ringtone went off again. “Oh God! Why is this gentleman troubling me this afternoon? I want to catch some sleep before my next lecture and he is bugging me with phone calls.”
She didn’t pick up the phone for some time, but later changed her mind and took the phone to receive the call. She immediately jolted and sat on her bed when she realized who the caller was. She really wasn’t expecting the call at that moment. She immediately answered her phone as she knew the consequences of not answering.
