Her pulse, heartbeat rate and blood pressure were down. “Be fast nurse!! We are losing her!!” the doctor screamed at the nurse. The doctor was trying all he could to save Aba’s life.
The doctor reached out to the defibrillator. He wanted to resuscitate Aba again. He told the nurse to switch it on. “One… Two… Three…” the doctor touched Aba’s chest with the device. He watched the monitor to see whether her pulse had been stabilized but the results was negative. “One… Two… Three…” The doctor repeated the process and watched the monitor.
The result was still negative. There was tension in the emergency room. Had they lost their patient? In medicine, defibrillation was supposed to be done three times. They had already done two and were left with the last attempt. The doctor didn’t waste any more time. He pressed the device against Aba’s chest hoping the results would be different this time.
“Doctor Look!!!” The nurse pointed to the monitor. The pulse was coming back to normal. The doctor immediately began other processes and Aba was stabilized. She had been able to fight back. After some few hours, Aba’s condition was okay and the doctor transferred her from the emergency ward to the recovery ward.
Meanwhile, Stella in her remorsefulness called Mr. Harry. She wanted to inform him about the situation. After two hours of trying his line, the call finally went through. It seemed Mrs. Harry intentionally switched off his phone. She knew Aba would reach out and call him and didn’t want that to happen. “Hello Mr. Harry.” Stella greeted with a low tone. “Hello. Please who am I speaking to?” Mr. Harry asked. “This is Stella, Aba’s roommate.” Stella retorted. “Oh Okay. How are you doing? Please what can I do for you?” Mr. Harry asked. “Aba was attacked this midnight and she is in a very critical condition at the hospital.” Stella finally blurted out. “What!!! What did you just say? My Aba?” He said while in shock. “What hospital is she in?” Mr. Harry asked while searching for his car key. “She is at the St. Dominic’s Hospital” Stella responded.
Mr. Harry located his car keys and rushed out of his room. He entered his car and sped off immediately to the hospital. He got to the hospital in forty minutes and quickly rushed to the recovery room. He saw Aba on one of the hospital beds. She was still in coma although stabilized. He moved to where Aba’s roommates were and began to interrogate them about the incident. “What happened?” He asked. “I was asleep when Stella woke me up and said Aba called her she needed help. We rushed to her flat and found her unconscious on her bed and brought her to the hospital immediately.” Abigail answered.
Mr. Harry shook his head in sorrow and went to sit beside Aba for some time. He then went to see the doctor and settled all the bills and paid more for advance treatment. Money wasn’t a problem. He just needed his sweetheart to get out of coma.
Erica called Bernard and told him about Aba’s condition. Bernard couldn’t handle the news. He wanted to see Aba immediately. Although Aba treated him badly, he still had a soft spot for her. He stopped all he was doing and headed to the hospital. He located Erica when he got to the hospital. “Where is she?” Bernard asked while grasping for breath. It was as if he had ran a mile marathon. Erica took her to the recovery room. They weren’t allowed to enter because the doctor said Aba needed rest. He wanted to wait for the doctor to allow him in so he could go and pray for Aba.
Aba’s roommates were already exhausted. They hadn’t slept since midnight and were now weary. They excused themselves and promised to come back later with food and attire for Aba. They also needed to freshen up and find something to eat because they were famished. They left Aba in the care of Bernard because he told them he would wait behind.
Finally, the doctor gave Bernard the permission to go and see Aba. He moved a chair and sat beside her bed. He held Aba’s hands and began to pray for her. While in prayer, he felt a movement on his hand. He didn’t initially pay attention but finally did when he felt the movement again. He opened his eyes and saw Aba looking at her. She had come out of coma. “Oh Bernard, you are here.” She said in an indistinctive voice and went back to sleep.
Bernard upon realizing Aba had return from coma sped out of the room to the doctor’s office and informed him of the situation. The doctor left immediately to examine things for himself. When the doctor did further examinations, he came to a conclusion Aba had returned from the coma.
Bernard went outside and called Erica to brief her about the situation. Erica exploded with joy when she heard the latest development in Aba’s health. She quickly informed the other roommates. Stella was now relieved. She now didn’t have to worry about Aba dying. She was more excited than the rest. They immediately freshened up and went back to the hospital to see things for themselves.
Aba remained in the hospital for one month before she fully recovered. During that time, Mr. Harry had stopped visiting her. She had not set eyes on him since her regain of consciousness. She was always hoping day after day for him to show up, but that never happened. Alas, Mr. Harry had dumped her for another mistress. She now saw Aba as a liability and got rid of her. The very thing that put him off was the fact that Aba was gang raped. He left her without thinking twice. After all, he was rich and could lure another lady the same way he lured Aba.
Meanwhile, Bernard and Erica’s relationship had grown strong. They were now inseparable. Erica tried her best to be good to Bernard and Bernard also did the same. The whole church knew about their relationship. They were very committed members and loved the Lord very much. They had in turn introduced themselves to their parents and were planning to get married after school. Bernard was indeed happy. He was happy Aba declined his proposal because he would have made the worst mistake of his life.
Aba was ejected from her flat because she couldn’t pay her utility bills. Mr. Harry had dumped her and that meant she wasn’t receiving any money from him. She left the flat and went back to stay on campus. Luckily for her, Mr. Harry had made her keep the Toyota Camry.
One morning, Aba got up not feeling well. She was feeling feverish and was vomiting frequently. She went to the pharmacist and bought some medicines for the fever. She treated the fever for three days but the symptoms still persisted. She went back to the pharmacy and complained to the pharmacist. The pharmacist recommend a pregnancy test. Aba was taken aback. “How can I be pregnant!!!? She exclaimed. “I am not saying you are pregnant dear. I just want to be sure it is not pregnancy so I can prescribe another medicine for you.” The pharmacist elucidated. Aba agreed to perform the test since she didn’t have any other alternative.
The results of the pregnancy test came out positive. Aba was dumbfounded by this latest development. She was confused and scared. She was confused about the paternity of the fetus growing in her womb. “Who is responsible for this pregnancy?” she rhetorically asked herself. Was she impregnated by Mr. Harry or the gang rapists that raped her? She stood there mute and confused while battling with these thoughts.
Who do you think is responsible for the pregnancy? Is it Mr. Harry or one of the gang rapists? What is Aba going to do about the pregnancy?
Watch out for the next episode for what happens next.
