Soon Arrangements were made and Doreen was on her way to undergo the surgery.
In four hours, the ambulance that was carrying Doreen had arrived at the Korle bu Teaching Hospital. The nurses at the hospital quickly came with a stretcher and carried Doreen off. The surgery needed to take place immediately if they were to minimize the risk. The medical doctor in charge of the surgery came to the scene. “Who is the donor?” The medical doctor asked. “I am.” Mame Pokua replied while she got up from the chair she was sitting on. She moved closer to the doctor. “Please, this way. We need to check your blood group and other things to ensure your organ is compatible with the system of the patient.” The doctor said while leading the way to the medical laboratory.
The test results were ready in thirty minutes and everything proved Mame Pokua could donate her kidney to her daughter. There was no time waste as Mame Pokua was made unconscious by an anesthesia. She was carried away along with her daughter to the theater room.
The other family members were waiting anxiously as they didn’t know the fate of Doreen or Mame Pokua. They occasionally said word of prayers for them, hoping things would turn up positive. In one and a half hour, the doctor came back from the theater room. Mame Pokua’s husband got up immediately to meet him. “How are they!?” He asked the doctor with impatience. “They are responding. The surgery was successful. We were able to replace your daughter’s kidney. We will take both of them into the intensive care unit, so we can monitor them properly especially Doreen. Her system would have to adjust to welcome the foreign organ and she needs to be monitored properly. As it stands now, everything is okay.” The doctor said as he went to his office.

Both Juliet and Nana Akua were looking for loopholes to dig a manhole. They would often meet when no one was around to discuss what they would do next. “Nana Akua, what have you been able to find.” Juliet asked Nana Akua in one of their rendezvous. “I saw the documents for the company madam Rose owns. Her name is on those documents. I initially thought it was her father’s business, but I thought wrong. That asset is her property and we need to inform Sir Daniel about it.” Nana Akua answered. “Well done Nana Akua, put your eyes on the ground and report to me any other thing you find relevant.” Juliet commended Nana Akua. “I almost forgot, her father has willed all his properties to her. I checked through the documents in his father’s room when I went to clean this morning.” Nana Akua added. “That is impressive Nana Akua. You are really useful. I will inform Daniel immediately.” Juliet said while she took her phone and called Daniel to update him on the latest development.
Daniel was happy when Juliet updated him. “Hmm… After all, my toils won’t be in vain. I need to play my cards well to ensure that I achieve my goal.” Daniel said when he hanged up the call.
Unknowingly, Rose had been paying for Araba’s school fees. She was still attending the same school as before. Araba was in the house when she heard a knock on her door. She opened the door and was surprised at who was standing behind her door. It was Rose! “Sister Rose, what a surprise to see you. It has been ages. The last time I saw you was when you brought me to this house.” Araba said while she gave way for Rose to enter through the door. She quickly went to the fridge to get Rose something to drink. “Don’t bother yourself, Araba. I am full.” Rose said as she caught Araba by the hand, trying to prevent her from going to the fridge. “Araba sit down, I came so we could fellowship. It has been long since we spoke and I have missed your company.” Rose said while sitting on the sofa.
“My wedding is coming on in three days and I want you to be my bridesmaid. I couldn’t think of anyone suitable than you.” Rose said. “But, Sister Rose, your parents won’t agree. Besides, they see me to be a thief, so why would they allow me to be a bridesmaid in their only daughter’s wedding?” Araba said sadly. “Don’t worry about that dear. It is my wedding and I can choose my bridesmaid. Since my parents won’t allow you to come to the house, we would have to meet every day at this house to prepare.” Rose said.
“Can I ask you a question Sister Rose?” Araba asked. “Yes dear, ask anything that is troubling your mind.” Rose replied. “Have you studied Sir Daniel very well? Araba asked. “Why do you ask that? Why, do you have any cause to doubt him? Rose answered Araba’s question with a question. “I don’t trust that guy. Remember I told you about how he wanted to rape me in your absence before the incident that landed me in the police cells. I don’t know how you went about that issue, but I think you didn’t take me seriously. Besides the attempted rape, he came to threaten me at the kitchen not to tell you. That guy is a snake and I don’t want you to taste of his deadly poison. Please Sister Rose, be careful and analyze things before handing over your whole life to him.” Araba said.
Rose sat down quietly as Araba said those things. She was moved by her words. It is true, Araba had told her about the near rape incident and even showed her the bruises she sustained. She was initially angry and disappointed and wanted to ask Daniel about it. But, she later changed her mind as she didn’t want to lose him. She couldn’t think of losing him as she had become fond of him. “But this is about my life. No! It is about my future and happiness. I need to put my ears on the ground and sift my emotions through my intellect to be sure I am making the right choice. It is better to break a courtship than to break an engagement and it is better to break an engagement than to break a marriage. I am too young to get myself entangled with something I would regret later. I have to take Araba’s advice seriously.” Rose brooded over these thoughts as she stared at the table in front of her.
Araba tapped Rose on the shoulder. “Sister Rose are you okay?” Araba asked. “Yes dear, I am okay. I was thinking about what you said and I think you are right. I will observe Daniel very well in these last moments before I finally step with him to the altar. But, I will need your help. I can’t do this on my own. I need you to help me study him intensely in these few days.” Rose said as she continued to sit quietly on the sofa. She was thinking of how to start with her investigations.
