Araba was speechless. She didn’t know what to say. She watched Rose’s mother tearing her bag apart. Unfortunately, the money fell from the bag onto the floor. “Araba what is this!!!?” Rose’s mother asked her with shock on her face. Araba was speechless. She didn’t know what to say.
“Araba, what is the meaning of this!!!?” Rose’s mother continued to ask still in shock. She held Araba’s wrist and dragged her to her husband. She showed her husband the money and told him she found the money in Araba’s bag. Rose’s father was taken aback. “What!!! I don’t believe what you are saying. Araba!!! No!” Rose’s father said, refusing to believe that Araba had done the deed.
Araba was still dumbfounded by the experience and as a result had not spoken a word. The only thing that could be seen on her face were tears flooding down her cheeks. “How can I explain my innocence? Who will hear the voice of an orphan?” Araba said silently, but still couldn’t speak aloud.
Rose’s father took his phone and called the police. “Araba you have surprised me. I took you under my roof and cared for you as my daughter. I enrolled you in the finest school in town and this is my reward? You want to collapse my business because of your selfish gains. I have called the police and they are on their way. I will see to it personally that you are dealt with accordingly. Nonsense!!!” Rose’s father said with a livid gesture.
In the midst of the commotion, Rose entered the room. She had heard the noise from outside and was wondering what the problem was. “What is happening here?” Rose asked. “Ask that baggage you brought into my house what on earth I have done to her? She stole my one hundred thousand dollars.” Said Rose’s father.
Rose was also perplexed. She squints an eye at Araba and found her sobbing and begging. She had now regained her ability to speak and insisted she knew nothing about the money. “Araba is it true? Did you take my father’s money?” Rose asked Araba. “No Sister Rose, I know nothing about this.” Araba replied with tears.
“Dad, I think you need to investigate this issue well. I don’t think Araba stole the money.” Rose said trying to save Araba from the impending peril, but her dad would have none of it.
In fifteen minutes, the police had entered the compound. They knocked on the door and Rose’s father dragged Araba outside. He handed her over to the police and they whisked Araba off to the police station. Araba was immediately put behind bars when she got to the police station.
Meanwhile, Rose was still pleading with her dad to have mercy on Araba. She had totally forgotten of the rape incidence Araba told her and her quest to confront Daniel. She knew Araba was innocent, but had no proof to acquaint her of the charges leveled against her.
Nana Akua went straight to Daniel’s house when she was asked to go to the market. She wanted to inform Daniel of her success. She needed her balance of thousand five hundred Ghana Cedis. She rang the bell when she got to the gate. Daniel came out and opened it. As usual, he led her to the hall.
“I have completed the assignment you gave me. Araba is behind bars as we speak.” Nana Akua told Daniel. Daniel was shocked. He needed the work to be done, but didn’t expect Nana Akua to execute her plans that fast. He was happy. “Are you sure of what you are saying?” Daniel asked. “Yes, Sir Daniel. I am sure of what I am saying.” Nana Akua replied.
Before Nana Akua could continue with another statement, Daniel’s phone rung. He picked the phone from his pocket to see who the caller was. It was Rose! He signaled Nana Akua to be quiet.
Daniel: Hello honey, how are you doing?
Rose: I am not well. Can you imagine Araba had been taken to the police station!!?
Daniel: Are you serious? What did the poor girl do?
Rose: Some money got missing in the house and my mom found it in her bag. My dad became angry and called the police. I don’t believe Araba took the money.
Daniel: That is unfortunate. I am sad to hear this terrible news.
Rose: I am in front of your house. I tried to enter, but the gate is locked. Come and open the gate.
Daniel immediately hanged up the call. He was petrified. Nana Akua was still in the house. If Rose should see her, it wouldn’t be a pleasant thing at all. “Your madam is here!” Daniel told Nana Akua.
Nana Akua was also petrified. She didn’t know what to do. Rose knew she had gone to the market. For Rose to see her in her fiancée’s house would be disastrous. “What are you standing there for? Follow me so you can hide yourself. When she enters the house, I will lead her to the bedroom. Make sure you find your way out. This is the other half of the money. Take it and leave. From today onwards, pretend we never met.” Daniel said as he handed over another brown envelope to Nana Akua. She hid Nana Akua in the bath house and went to open the gate for Rose.
“What took you so long? I have been standing here for the past five minutes.” Rose inquired. “Nothing, dear. I was in the washroom when you called.” Daniel lied. “Oh, okay. I want you to go with me to the police station to see if we can bail Araba out.” Rose said.
“Dear, as much as I want to help you. I don’t think it is wise to go against your father. It will be a sign of disrespect if you should bail Araba out without your father’s approval.” Daniel advised Araba. “So what are you saying? You mean I should leave her to rot in prison? I can’t do that.” Rose said.
Daniel led Rose the hall. “I think I want to relax here for a moment. There is a lot of commotions in my house and I can’t stand the ranting of my parents anymore. I want to calm myself before going back to the house.” Rose said as she entered the hall.
She switched on the television and started watching movies. Daniel tried to get Rose out of the hall into the bedroom so Nana Akua could go out, but Rose was adamant. She was enjoying the movie and didn’t want to be distracted. Daniel became impatient.
After some time, Rose felt like using the washroom. “Daniel, I want to use your washroom.” Rose said. Daniel stood akimbo with surprise on his face not knowing what response to give. He knew Rose would see Nana Akua if he allowed her into the washroom. He had to do something fast before things would escalate and get out of hands.
“Dear, my water closet has developed a fault. One of the pipes carrying the water is spoilt, and the plumber had not come to fix it. Anyway, the one in the guest room is working. You can use that one.” Daniel lied again to Rose. Rose believed him and went to the guest room to use the water closet there.
She returned shortly before Daniel could make any move. As she was about to sit down, a rap sounded at the door. Daniel forgot to lock the main gate when he went to open it for Rose. He was surprised how the person gained access into his compound. He left to have a look at whom it was with a puzzled face.
He almost lost consciousness when he peeped through the peephole in the door. It was his other girlfriend- Juliet. Juliet was Daniel’s girlfriend before he met Rose. He was trying to raise money from Rose so he could settle with Juliet- the one he loved. He wasn’t expecting Juliet at that hour. The alarming thing was that, Juliet also didn’t know about Rose. He was scared as the rapping became persistent. “Why are you standing there? Won’t you open the door to see who the person is? Rose said.
Daniel didn’t know what to do. A wrong move could jeopardize all he had worked for. He could lose both his source of income and his love. Now, he had three ladies in his house. For them to meet each other would be a disaster. How was he going to solve this puzzle? These were the thought running through Daniel’s mind as he stood behind the door.
